Baking Class - Pão doce/massa sovada (Portuguese Sweet Bread) and folar de páscoa (Easter sweet bread nests)
Learn to make the the Azorean favorite massa sovada which is also called pão doce and the traditional Easter variation called folar which is a bread nest completed with an egg in the center.
Note: This is a demonstration class. Students may begin the process baking along with Jeremiah and then finish after class. The entire process can take 5 to 8 hours depending on rising.
This class will NOT be recorded to protect the privacy of all students.
In this class you will learn:
- How to make a starter
- How to properly mix the dough by hand or in a stand mixer
- How to properly prove the dough
- Flavor variations
- How to properly shape and bake
- How to develop your own recipe
- How to shape a folar nest with an egg
Each ticket allows access for one screen (multiple people may work from the same screen)
Shopping list and recipe will be provided 48 hours before class.
The class will be given over Zoom. Link will be provided 48 hours before class.
You must have access to the following specialized kitchen equipment:
Kitchen scale in grams is preferred but not required
Heavy stand mixer (like a kitchen aid) is optional
